Citizen journalist Philip Dwyer has had his bail conditions rescinded on appeal Monday afternoon after punitive harassment by An Garda Siochána following his work documenting state harassment of protestors in Coolock the past month.

The restrictive bail conditions had originally included staying away from and not engaging in protests, such as anti-immigration demonstrations before being thrown out this afternoon in court. While demanding him to follow Garda instructions for future protests the judge ruled Dwyer’s attendance at protests is an important part of his role as a citizen journalist. His successful appeal was made on those grounds.

In a statement released via his X account, Dwyer announced: “I’ve been to court to appeal my bail conditions after my arrest in coolock.” Dwyer thanked his legal team for their success in his case. The appeal was granted after the Judge ruled the bail conditions inappropriate in Dwyer’s circumstances.

Though Dwyer’s bail conditions were changed it would be the public order offences against him have not been dropped.

The subject of multiple media hitpieces, Dwyer has recently run in the European Elections for the Dublin constituency this June, receiving a total of 6,705 votes.

As a member of the Ireland First political party, Dwyer advocated for immigration restrictions, among other conservative policies including a pro-life and pro-family platform and has been a regular feature in the Republic’s ongoing asylum backlash.
