Simon Harris, the TikTok Tanaiste and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has had a particularly rough time these past few weeks. Focusing too much on actually governing Ireland at the time when it faces an economic crossroads, he has left his control of his own party under fire, as opportunistic sharks circle the leadership position of Fine Gael.
Fianna Fáil, too, is under pressure. Without a clear exit strategy for Michael Martin, the succession of party leadership is in question. The resulting economic woes of Trump’s tariffs could signal the end of one of these parties very well.
Foreign affairs was initially seen by the likes of Ivan Yates and Matt Cooper as a posting from which Harris could deal with the internal reforms necessary to keep Fine Gael on top – but in an era of repetitive international upheavals, precisely the inverse has taken place.
Simon Harris is in Washington this week to negotiate against the Trump administration’s tariffs, and he has managed to make sure whiskey was exempt – a commendable act to be fair – but on the whole he has failed to adequately balance Ireland’s relationship with the European Union, and has proven unwilling to step out of line with the commands of “President von der Leyen.”
Simon Harris’ image of Weltpolitik is far from the kind that brought the Kaiser to disrupt the balance of power and spiral Europe to the Great War, but it is a kind of bureaucratic middle-manism whereby responsibility is shared collectively, such that failures are distributed in such a way that blame is impossible to lie on any one individual.
Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are at crisis point, they have mismanaged the state domestically for decades, but now as the state’s foreign policy is near breaking point, they’re up shit’s creek, and nobody is there to throw them a liferaft.
Ireland’s gombeen administrative class are quickly wakening to the point that foreign policy is oftentimes more important than domestic policy, but with the rot that has set into the Department of Foreign Affairs is a damning sign that Ireland will not be able to weather the coming economic storm.
Micheal Lehan of RTE news fame alleged that at a private Fianna Fail parliamentary meeting, the Taoiseach told his colleagues that there will be no return to the status quo, to resounding silence throughout the room.
With the inaction of Irish officials over decades and their compounding incompetence, Ireland will have to pay a high cost for mismanagement, and it’s possible we may see the end of either Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael as a parliamentary force in Irish politics, leaving the door wide-open for a new alternative.
Wouldn’t it be beautiful if the Trump tariffs broke FF/FG patronage networks?
Great quote about that Lutnick chap on the Anton Savage show: Some Kerryman said: “If he was a puppy, you’d bring him down to the river and drown him… A man who has never honoured a deal in his life…the kind of “people” Trump is surrounding himself with”.
The Journal tells us that Makhlouf of the Central Bank gave Ms Rothschild 616,000 for a very poor piece of sculpture.
Methinks the noticing is increasing. Deo gratias.
Every shoulder to the wheel! Remigration now! Athimirce anois direach!
FG/FF PATRONAGE NETWORKS – NGO,EU,UN – NOTHING IRISH
Ireland is Broken 2025.
Nothing works as it should, every government department and service has major flaws n fu.kups…and 6 months after a GE the FF/FG Coalition
has not passed a law, legislation or policy…no functioning committee.
It is a complete shambles of the highest order…nothing new here, move on
The Garda don’t engage with the Mi5 Commissioner, the health service is embroiled in another scandal involving quack surgery, the Children’s hospital is still in the never along with the homeless, the homelessness, and the dysfunctional courts that are being exposed for massive corruption in Ireland and overseas…but what about the Economy Stupid, Train-wreck.
If and when the cow jumps over the moon, then the Irisk are in safe hand
If you expect to be hanging off the tail of EU for the next 50 yrs,
If you expect the elite dole bludgers in the NGO sector to change,
If you believe the corruption in Civil/Public sectors will remain pro qou
If you actually think or believe that these parasites really give a fu.k ???
Here’s a hint,
take for example a smaller country than Ireland, with limited land mass,
that was totally destroyed in infrastructure and economy…and became a
Global Powerhouse in a relatively short time span, because it was set up and planned by ONE INDIVIDUAL, to be one of the most successful and desired places to live because IT HAS GOOD GOVERNANCE and respects its PEOPLE AND CULTURE…AND THEY RESPECT IT TOO
any ideas yet ?
The elite Know-alls that govern the Irisk for their own selfish greed and their parasitical careers and power, Fu.k up Deliberately, they don’t want things to work or be organised because between them ALL…
They are guaranteed between themselves to always be in government, in power, one way or another, living the life of Reilly, at TAXPAYERS EXPENSE….nose to the trof and sucking the Irisk to a dry useless tit and bag of bones….you haven’t worked it out yet…you haven’t a clue.
