Gombeenism is a pervasive disease of the Irish political scene. We all know it. “I wouldn’t be a fan of Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael but sure, yer man is sound, didn’t he fix the roads!?”.
It seems like in Ireland, we have never quite got the hang of the Westminster Parliamentary System. Maybe that’s a good thing. We love our local Chieftains—Taoisigh in every Tuaithe.
The frustration of this tendency means that we are seemingly destined to suffer Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael’s uniparty rule for another 100 years.
Suppose you have ever canvassed for a Nationalist political candidate. In that case, you have undoubtedly had the experience of meeting a person on the doors who agrees wholeheartedly with everything you say — but they’re voting for Gombeen O’Toole up the road because he runs the local pub.
So what do we do?
Whining about it online isn’t gonna get our Nation back.
Instead, we must BECOME the Gombeen.
We have a few avenues available to us.
None of these are necessarily simple and this is not an exhaustive list:
1) GAA – No easier way to solidify your position in the community than by becoming a local GAA legend. If you make County, you are in a real position to influence local politics.
So if you’re an ambitious young lad who’s good at football/hurling, keep at it. If you’re an auld lad who’s athletic days are past ya, make sure you spend some time at matches. If you’ve got surplus cash, donate it to your local GAA team. Make sure you’re there at the pub when the boys win the Championship. Get your children involved early. This is an intergenerational project. Shtart em young, tús maith leath na hoibre. You’ve got to be promoting the health and vitality of the Gael.
2) Local Pub or Shop- The local is the lifeblood of every rural village in Ireland. This is where you’ll get the true feelings from your community, uninhibited and free. If you find yourself with bar skills, start working down the pub. If you manage to become a manager or better yet, owner of the local pub, you’re in a prime position to make yourself known and have a say in your own affairs. This also applies to any local shop/post office or the like. If you’re the local businessman bringing jobs and opportunities for your own people, showing your competency in managing these affairs, the people will back you and even overlook some Serious character flaws. We’ve all seen it.
You’ve got to be a voice for your people
3) You are someone’s son/daughter – If you happen to be the offspring of someone well known and respected up the town, you can stand up and will be heard easier than the rest of us. Nepotism built this country, baby!
Maybe it’s a throwback to our Gaelic Royalty days, where the big powerful clans had a good reputation and were hereditary rulers of a territory. Whatever the case, Irish politics is full of dynasties. Might as well make your own, and make it Nationalist. Let’s not fight against our nature. You’ve got to appreciate your Heritage
4) Tidy Towns/Community Watch: This is a must. If there’s any committee happening up the town, you NEED to be involved in it. You need to be picking up litter, mending fences, cleaning up graffiti, and texting WhatsApp groups. Make sure you fill the pothole. Fill ’em with Ukrainians if you need to, but by God make sure they’re filled.
Get stuck in with something happening in your area. Go out and meet people. Become a figure that people can turn to for help.
You’ve got to be Neighbourly.
5) Your envelopes are brown – In the immortal words of Francis ‘The Viper’ Higgins: “I’ll talk shite if the price is right – What’s the claw-wedge?” – Greasing the right paws can go a long way. If you REALLY want that planning permission, you will shlip those fifties into the grubby hands of your local fat cat. If you can concoct a scheme to line your own pockets in the meantime, sure even better. Everyone loves a cute hoor. Just make sure you throw some of that cash back towards something in your area and you’re all set. Sponsor the local GAA team. Get the school a new astroturf. Pump the parish pump. Be Flaithiúil
You’ve got to be Generous
So of course all these things are easier said than done. You don’t become these things overnight. These all require hard steady work. You have to stop blackpilling. Get off your ass. Go out and help the local community and actively engage with everyone around you.
No point staying at home bitching about how you’re surrounded by sheep or that the country is gone to the dogs. Is that what Pearse and the boys did? Absolutely not.
Take stock of your own position in the community and ask yourself: What value can I bring these people? Usurp the Gombeen. Become the Gombeen.
what a stupid article – become a local thick? no thanks

Gombeen hasbeen…if the cap fits ?
And maybe we can create THE GOMBEEN GREENS…..tongue in cheek
A family is an ecosystem and is the first priority of any civilised country or human being, regrettably all involved in political Ireland and the church has failed The Irish Family for decades with their destructive measures, policies, laws and lack of support in today’s world or any form
of vision to enable trust and confidence for future Irish Generations.
THEY ARE THE MISERABLE SLIMY HOORS THAT DESTROYED
THE IRISH NATION…AND THEY ALL FU.KING KNOW THEY DID.
Rebuild your families which in turn rebuilds communities and Towns,
FU.K POLITICS…TELL THEM ALL TO GO FU.K THEMSELVES.
You don’t allow gobshites into your home so why the fu.k would you allow them into your community or lives…YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO SOCIETY…not this Lilly Livered Slime that wastes your time…and TAX.
Be Independent, be more selfish to your own needs and families which strengthens your communities in trust and character going foreword.
YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE ON THIS EARTH…ENJOY IT ALL.
Tell all who have contributed to destroying your families and communities to go away, leave you be,to mind their own fu.kin business
because nobody is guaranteed tomorrow…OR 5 more fu.king years. ☘
You are quite correct Ivaus!!.
Sadly, our once great (if poor nation) at least had Elders, wise men and women, Chieftains to guide our young!!.
2024 has become the era of fake people!, on fake TV programmes.
Our young, the backbone of the Emerald Isle (as was!!) are guided towards porn, Internet filth and the absolute ruin of this once great nation of Scholars & Intellects!!.
Most will rightly, call me an old man. They ARE CORRECT!!, I AM OLD!!, but here is my question,
” Does age entitle me to mourn the passing of my home land?” , or as an Elder, Am I also to be DENIED this?? .
We survived the Famine, repeated occupation, the Troubled times and more recently, I have buried several very dear friends!.
No, not due to age, but rather via the advice of their Doctor during Covid!!.
To the new non-identity Irish, I ask only this question, WHAT about the rest of us??.
Ivaus is correct, we are very swiftly losing our identity!, if our youth do not care about this nation, WE ARE DONE!!.
Except for the old bastards, who foolishly hold on to the dream of a better Ireland for all!.
Ivaus my friend, Where the hell did we go so wrong??.
I will conclude by saying, WE ARE NOT AMERICA, Thank God!.
We are Irish, the native folk of Ireland, but when I am buried and nothing but ridicule, of some snot nosed Woke boy remains.
Then as they get older, they will begin to realise what as youth, they once turned their backs upon!.
Nation, People & history, which stretches far beyond all the vices of modernity!!.
GOD HELP US ALL!.
My Good Friend Ivaus, God Bless you and keep you safe!!.

Tom,
and all fellow Irish Elders…the backbone of every generation!
Irishmen we are…it’s not a given , AND PATRIOTS, by no choice.
Do not despair my friends…they underestimate our power.
Chieftains Tom,
A 1/2 revolving TAOSEACH he never was,the irony of it all LOST.
A 1/2 revolving TANAISTE/Foreign Minister who rejects IRISH
SOVEREIGNTY…Duh,don’t get me started on expletives, XXXX.
Almost,80% of the Electorate did NOT VOTE FOR ff/fg/sf/others.
1/5 is not a majority,a mandate, democratic,or pass the pub test,
never mind a union meeting, show of hands,or Irish family table.
Should they continue taking advantage of this FAULT in the voting register to guarantee their corrupt governance then LEGITIMATELY 2/5 of a voting block (foreign nationals) could
win and control an IRISH PARLIAMENT…too late then, toooo late
I know Burkean trolling exists, however you heard it from me Tom,
consider say an Irish Heritage Party ( Grey Irish, not racist ) and they form and use the diversity/inclusion available by means of
NGO and funding…and maybe called Irish Heretical Ethnic Legacy Participants…I HELP…just one idea from Grey Power.
Global Indoctrination and Radicalisation has been pumped into our youngest school children by way of FEAR, and despite the God
fearing Irish of our generation, We Were Not Infantilised, while the Garda were militarised…absolute power destroys absolutely.
If not addressed quickly then having to actually fight will become the reality for future Irish Generations as seen from overseas.
I’m reminded of growing up in Our,time,Our Ireland,Our Home.
Not all were Hero, but Everyman was worth his salt in how they
prided home and family and that IRISH PRIDE was exported globally and built Irish Reputation Overseas in building other Countries and Character ( UK-USA-CAN-AUS)…not yer miserable bowl of sham display by a bunch of incompetent fools.
Sadly Tom ,
we all have all lost friends and companions of late and my only gratitude for them was in not bearing witness to 2024 ,
I have no problem in calling youth to account, in calling their bluff,
In sitting and talking with them and remembering how I too sat in awe amongst My Elders and how my life benefited and enriched.
God was the first true Patriot, we’ll all be in good company again.
Slan Leat a Mhic…take care n God Bless.
“If you REALLY want that planning permission, you will shlip those fifties into the grubby hands of your local fat cat. If you can concoct a scheme to line your own pockets in the meantime”
Tut, tut, tut.
Don’t you realise that when you hand over the brown envelopes, it will be filmed and they will use it against you? There is also a moral argument against. Your Christian friends will be able to remind you what it is…
A better way to build a home is to give the planner the Gaelic Stare. Have you heard about it? You’re not threatening them, just eyeballing them. Worked for me 🙂
Stop whinging about planning permission. If it’s on wheels, it doesn’t need planning. Build it on wheels. Buy a barge for 50k, put it on a big trailer park it where it needs to be.
Ensure you have decent neighbours who won’t snitch.
Apart from that, some excellent points in the article. Be successful in your life. Be ready to help, when you can. Be brave. Most important of all: Be honest. If you’re not honest, it all falls apart.
